Sumo Seven

Bio

Sumo Seven started as a primal idea several years ago in the head of trumpet player Jeremy Duresky.  After having played in several bands in Minnesota & Wisconsin that all played a lot of the same songs, Jeremy decided to start his own band.  He wanted to introduce music to the Twin Cities that isn't ever heard; after all, there is so much great music that doesn't get played and so many great artists that don't get props and recognition, why not get the music and the artists out there.

Next step, find a singer who can lay it down.  Enter Jerry Parker II.  Now Sumo Seven was 2 members strong.  From there, they attacked the horn section finding a tenor sax and a trombone.  Over the next few years, Sumo Seven was at full capacity.

Fast forward a few years, and here we are.  Sumo Seven plays a variety of funk, blues, soul, R&B, and pop hits from the last 5 decades -- including crowd favorites by Tower of Power, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and Michael Jackson; as well as lesser known gems by Soulive, Liquid Soul, Marc Broussard and Trombone Shorty.

Although the line up has changed slightly over the years, the goal to avoid the overplayed horn band repertoire has remained in tact.  Sumo Seven loves to  mix in fresh, new covers to keep the crowd entertained for the whole set.  All of our songs feature memorable melodies and funky, hip-shakin’ grooves to showcase the talent of our band members.  Singers  Jerry Parker & Jarrod Anderson light up the stage with their dynamic stage presence, charisma, and flawless vocal techniques.  The Sumo Seven Horns crank out precise funky lines and are a force to be reckoned with.   The rhythm section holds it all down, providing super tight grooves that are second to none.

We've been putting in the work.  We are ready to unleash the funky fire & brimstone upon you all.  We hope to see you at a show soon.
